Private Patrick Lynch served with Bedford County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Patrick Lynch emigrated from Ireland sometime around 1760-1770 to Maryland. Per testimony from John P. Nichols of Bedford County, Virginia, " Patrick landed in Maryland and was sold for his passage" He was then drafted as a privateer. His first tour of duty in the United States was under Captain Henry Butler who joined with Captain David Beards Company of Militia. This began his military career. He would go on to serve under Captain John Nichols in Maryland for several other tour before moving to Bedford County, Virginia with his wife's family. Patrick and Martha were married by Parson John Holt in New London, Campbell, VA. No record could be found of the marriage and this is to be believed it was by "saying the vows". Many fellow soldiers in the court records who served with Patrick were also at their saying of their vows.

Once in Bedford, Patrick served tours under Captain John Trigg with Colonel St. George Tucker, Colonel Meriweather and Colonel James Callaway and was at the "Capture of Cornwall at Little York on October 19, 1781. He also served tours under Captain Bueford and Captain William Terry and Colonel Peter Mulenburg.

He is also remembered in the court records has having served tours in the "Carolinas". Patrick volunteered many times to serve as a substitute for other soldiers such as Robert Sinclair.
