Mr. Leger was born in Shediac, NB, Canada, on Dec. 27, 1919, the son of Elzear and Lydia (Richard) Leger. As an infant his family immigrated to the United States and made their home in Lynn. He attended and graduated from St. Jean Baptiste Grammar School and St. Mary’s High School. He was a longtime resident of the city. In 1944, he enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a Corporal with the 2133 AAF Base Unit Spence F. in GA and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Eugene pursued his education for four years as an apprentice machinist at General Electric, where he remained employed for 44 years, and retired in 1984 as a manufacturing specialist. Eugene had a 75-year special love for singing, and sang in the St. Jean Baptiste Men’s Choir in Lynn until its closing. The choir then joined St. Mary’s Italian Church in Salem and returned to St. Mary’s Church in Lynn. In 1984, the choir traveled to Rome, where they auditioned for Pope John Paul II. He was also a member of the Franco American Veteran Post 12 and the G.E. Spark Plugs Club in Lynn. [2]
