Mary Jane was born about January 1878 to Edward John and Grace Mabbott (nee Alsop). Her Death Certificate 04805/1879 shows she was 21 months old at death 16th September 1879. Cause of death was given as accidental burning occuring 12 days earlier.

Death through Burning. — A day or two since, a little girl, daughter of a miner named Mabbott, fell into the fire, and was so severely burnt about her head, face, and arms, that she died of convulsions, on Tuesday. One eye was completely destroyed, and the other seriously injured.[1]
