David Magoon was born in about 1800, the son of Jonathan Magoon and Betsey Smith.[1] The birth date is based on the 1871 census (referenced below) that indicates birth in 1800/01.
David married Hannah Elliot in 1820.[2][3] The marriage records indicate they were both from the town of Stanstead in Lower Canada. David's brother Jeremiah married Hannah's sister Olive Elliot.
About 1837, they had settled across the lake in Potton Township. The 1842 census entry shows a household of 10 people.[4] Living right next door to them was David's sister Polly Elliot, then a widow.
David and Hannah's children included the following (not a complete list):
John, b. 16 Dec. 1821; m. Melissa Catherine Orcutt, 24 May 1849; d. 28 Feb. 1913
On the 1871 census, David and Hannah continued to live in Potton, next door to their son John, his wife Melissa and John and Melissa's children.[5]
David passed away in 1877. He was interred in Owls Head Cemetery in East Potton.[6]
