Biography

1658 Birth

James Magruder was born in 1658 in Calvert County, Maryland [1]

Parentage

He was the son of Alexander Magruder and his first wife Sarah. [1]

Saunders, following MacKenzie, believes that James' mother was a Margaret Braithwaite. [2]

However, increasingly available documententation suggests that Margaret Braithwaite was a legend, and the actual mother of James was Sarah Unknown.

1677 Inheritance

James is named in the will of his father Alexander, made 20 Feb 1676 and proved 25 July 1676. [3] A codicil states that James, Samuel, and John, are his eldest sons. [2]

By the terms of his father's will [4] James with his brother John was to receive 900 acres in two tracts, Alexandria and Dumblain, on the Patuxent River. James was a witness to the will.

Marriage and Children

The Clan Gregor society materials indicate that James and John Magruder, sons of Alexander, Immigrant, died without issue [5]

However, Saunders believes that while the name of the woman James married is unknown, a son, Hugh, resulted from the union. [2]

Death

James Magruder died 23 Dec 1685 in Calvert County, Maryland [1]
