Biography

John Main was born about 1784 in North Stonington, Connecticut. He was a son of Benjamin (a.k.a Benajah) Main (1749-1820) and Mary (Woodward) Main (1741-1815).

Mr. Main was a farmer, and was in the War of 1812. He served in the 7th Company in the defense of Stonington Borough when that place was attacked by the British, Aug. 9 and 10, 1814.

He married at Ledyard, Connecticut, Matilda Brown [b. ca. 1789 @ Ledyard, Connecticut, daughter of Nathaniel & Deborah (Morgan) Brown]. They had 7 or 8 children.

John Main passed away 3 Jun 1856. Interment was in Main Cemetery, North Stonington, New London County, Connecticut, USA: Find A Grave: Memorial #20696246
