Helen Mains was born on the 20th of September, 1855, at Bairns Land[1], Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland.[2][3] the 7th of 10 children of William and Agnes (MacFarlane) Mains.[4].
At 1, on Monday the 10th of August, 1857, her sister Annie was born, in Bairns Land, Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
At 4, on Thursday, the 16th of August, 1860, her sister Mina was born, in Bairns Land, Bay Street, Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
Also, on Friday, the 19th of October, 1860, her Maternal Grandfather Alexander MacFarlane died, aged 53, in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
At 6, in 1861, she was living in Bay Street, Port Glasgow with her parents and 5 siblings and a John Blackley , [5]
At 7, on Wednesday, the 6th of August, 1862, her brother Thomas, was born, but died in Infancy, in Renfrewshire.[citation needed]
At 9, on the 28th of May 1865, her mother Agnes, died in Bridgeton, Glasgow.[citation needed] at 45.
At 14, in 1869, her father William died, in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
She helped her mother to run the coal business after her father died and while brother James was training for the ministry.[1]
At about 16, and some time after 1871, her sister Maggie died, possibly in Scotland.[citation needed]
At 23, on the 26th of June, 1879, she married George Todd at 26 South Street, Greenock West, Renfrew, Scotland, and they had 7 children, 2 of whom died.[6] The Rev Dr Hugh Macmillan of the Free Church of Scotland was the Officiant[1]
At 24, on the 26th of July 1880, her daughter, Agnes, was born.
At 26, in 1881, she and George, a Timber Measurer, were living in a tenament with multiple tenants[1], at 24 East Crawford Street, Greenock East, with their first daughter Agnes;[7][8]
At 27, on the 29th of May, 1883, her daughter Jen was born in Greenock East, Inverclyde, Scotland.
At 30, on the 13th of April, 1885, her daughter, Nellie was born in Greenock East, Inverclyde, Scotland.
At 31, on the 22nd of May, 1887, her daughter Daisy was born in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland, United Kingdom. At 36, in 1891, she and George and their family were now living at 25 Newton Street, Greenock;[9]
And at 36, on the 8th of June, 1891, she had a son, George who was stillborn.
At 36, In 1891, she and George, now with Agnes 10, Janet (Jen) 7, Helen Nel) 5, and Margaret (Daisy 3) were still living at 25 Newton St, Greenock West.[9]
At 45, on the 24th of October, 1898, she had a daughter, Georgie in Port Glasgow, Renfrew, Scotland.
At 60, in 1915, she farewelled George and their youngest daughter, Georgie, then 16, who departed overseas for 5 years, visiting daughter Janet and Jim Carson at Sydney, with their return delayed by the hostilities of WWI.[10]
At 65, in 1920, she welcomed George and Georgie back home again.[11]
At 70, on the 20th of September, 1925, she penned a letter to her youngest daughter, Georgie, in which she wrote:Do you remember that I am 70 today. Nell invited Miss A, Father and I up for tea this afternoon. I said nothing about my birthday for neither father nor Nell remembered, so just tonight I said to Nell she had a birthday party and did not know it. Father was so surprised too, but of course he never can remember dates.[1]
At 77, on the 11th of November, 1932, she died, suddenly, at 7.10 a.m., at The Chalet, Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire, Scotland, of myocarditis, funeral private, and burial in the Kilmacolm Cemetery[12][1][13]
