David Francois Marais (1851- 1929) was an illegitimate son born in 1851 to Hester Coetzer Hurter. He was baptised on 19 April 1852 with only his mother present, where he was recorded as an "onecht zoon". https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSK6-13JH-N

DF Marais is later stated as being the fourth son of the late Mr David Francois Marais of Paarl. The only DF Marais to fit the bill is David Francois Marais (24.03.1800 - 7.6.1879). His first wife, Magdalena Johanna Rossouw, dies before 1851 and he has a fling with Hester, and she bore his 4th son (be it out of wedlock), but he marries Maria Helena Roux in 1851 so Hester is left an unwed mother. No record survives, as far as established, wether David Francois Marais (father) ever recognised his illegitimate son and wether the two of them ever had contact.
