Biography

Florence was born in 1880^[1] and baptised on the 15th of April, 1880.^[2] She was the daughter of William Marchbank and Alice Gay.

On the 13 Jul 1898, when she was 18, Florence was listed as a missing person - her mother believing that she was going to commit suicide or procure an illegal abortion:

Urgent enquiries should be made to ascertain the whereabouts of Florence Ann Marchbank, who left her home, No. 27 Red Lion-street, Balmain, at 1 p.m. on the 9th instant. Her mother received a letter from her on the 11th, dated the 10th instant, wherein she stated that she would not be seen alive again. Her mother further states that she is pregnant and may be found at some place where illegal operations are performed. Description:- 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slight build, good figure, auburn hair, hazel eyes, dark complexion ; dressed in a short gray dress and bodice with green velvet front, black broad-rimmed hat trimmed with lace and green-shot ribbon, green-shot belt, dancing pumps, and brown kid fur-lined gloves ; good appearance.'^[3]

Her son William Gordon Marchbank was born on the 12th of October, 1899.^[4]

Florence married William Rudgley in Sydney during 1906.^[5] They had at least 4 children together: Reginald (1907), William (1908), Campbell (1911), Horace (1913), and Florence (1915).

She died in 1963 and was buried in the Field of Mars Cemetery.^[6]
