Biography

William Marquis was born in Ireland. He married about 1717 to Margret Colville in Ireland, daughter of Robert Colville.

Notes for William Marquis: Genealogy Of The Marquis Family - compiled by Rollin Marquis in 1933 - The first of the name to appear in America, so far as known, were William and his wife, Margaret, who came from county Antrim ( or Armagh) Ireland in 1720. William and Margaret also had other children among them John and Vance who came with them or preceeded them to America.

Elder in the Opequon presbyterian church organized by Rev. John Anderson, the Presbytery of Donegal in 1738, the first Presbyterian church west of the Blue Ridge in VA.

By the late 1700's descendants of all the Marquis lines had moved into the western region of Pennsylvania.
