Biography

NOTE: Julia's husband George abandoned she and this Julia's children. Julia would not grant him a divorce. He settled in the Lexington, Arlington area near Boston, Massachusetts and raised a 2nd family. Oddly, Julia allowed George to be buried in her plot in Leominster's St. Cecelia's Cemetery. Profile owner's comments from family sources including his mother a granddaughter of this Julia.

BIRTH:

Julie Marquis was born in Leominster, Massachusetts in February 25, 1886. Daughter of David Marquis and Selina. [1]

EMPLOYMENT:

See 1930 US Census source that says in 1930 she was employed working on sleeves in a shirt shop.

See 1940 US Census source that says in 1940 she was employed as a "stitcher in a shirt shop."

See 1950 US Census source that says in 1950 she was employed as an "ironer in a shirt shop."

MARRIAGE:

George Tessier married Julie Marquis in Leominster, Massachusetts 1908. This record says she was born in Leominster 1886, her parents were David Marquis and "Alina" (Selina) Tardit. [2]

CENSUS':

The 1910 US Census of Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this Julia A. at the age of 24yrs old and given as born in Massachusetts, married for 1yr and having mothered one child who is living in 1910. She is living there in Leominster at 155 Fourth St. with her 22yr old husband, George E. Tessier and their 2-month old son, Wilfred A.[3]

The 1920 US Census of Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this Julia at the age of 34yrs old and given as born in Massachusetts, (with both her parents born in French speaking Canada). She is living there in Leominster at 15 Sixth St. with her 32yr old husband, George Tessier and their four children; 9yr old Wilfred E., 7yr old Leo G., 5yr old Annie J. G. and 11-month old Archie E.[4]

The 1930 US Census of Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this Julia at the age of 42yrs old and given as employed working on sleeves in a shirt shop and born in Massachusetts. She is living there in Leominster at 224 Mechanic St. with her 41yr old husband, George Tessier and their five children, 20yr old Wilfred, 14yr old Leo, 15yr old Annie (we believe the ages for Leo and Annie are crossed, one for the other), 11yr old Archie and 8yr old Melvin.[5]

The 1940 US Census of Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this Julia Tessier at the age of 53yrs old and given as a "stitcher in a shirt shop," born in Massachusetts. She is living there in Leominster on Mechanic St. with two of her children; 21yr old Archie and 18yr old Melvin.[6]

The 1950 US Census of Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this Julia Tessier at the age of 64yrs old given as born in Massachusetts, separated from her husband and employed as an "ironer in a shirt factory." She is living there in Leominster at 27 Exchange St. in the household of her son-in-law, 38yr old Floyd Bailey and Floyd's wife, (Julia's daughter), 36yr old Anne. Also living in the household are Anne and Floyd's children; 14yr old Beverly, 13yr old Janet and 8yr old Melvin.[7]

DEATH:

She is buried at Saint Cecilia's Cemetery in Leominster, Massachusetts. [8]

US Social Security Death Index record says she died in December of 1963 in Massachusetts. Gives her date of birth as February 25, 1886.[9]

Per her obituary in the Fitchburg Sentinel (Newspaper) December 5, 1963, she was a member of Saint Anne's Sodality of St. Cecelia's Church; Franco American War Veteran's Auxiliary; Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; American Legion Auxiliary; Leominster Emblem Club; Golden Age Club and The Daughter's of Isabella, (Leominster, MA posts most likely.)[10]
