1919 - You and Kathleen were both born while we were at Mulgutherie. You were a placid baby. I could manage you and we became friends at once. When the Rev Mirrington came from Forbes to christen you your rightful Godmothers were not able to be present so Aunt Ruby paid me the compliment of asking me to stand proxy for them. It was my duty to hold you during the ceremony and I am proud to be able to report that you behaved like a lady.[1]
1933 - Lewis John Keays Martin described his occupation as an Orchardist. [2] The first time I stayed with you at Arcadia Uncle Lewis met me a Hornsby. I was very impressed with the Galston Gorge. I hadn't seen anything like it before. Uncle Lewis gripped his pipe with his teeth, grasped the wheel with both hands and steered that old T model Ford round those bends with concentration. Half way down he said "You don't have to admire it, you know." I take it he didn't but I wonder if he really saw it or or only the bends? I loved being with you, I felt at home. Aunt Ruby and I talked and one thing she said was "Your poor old Uncle couldn't say the right thing." I replied rather sadly "No one could", Uncle Lewis suffered from severe migraine headaches. The only thing he could do was go to bed and stop there until they left. After he went to Arcadia and ate a lot of oranges they went away for good. Good old Vitamin C![3]
