His mother and stepmother were presumed to be sisters Catherine (Atherton) Mather (1628 - 1678) and Elizabeth (Atherton) Mather (1628 - 1710) both married Timothy Mather. Catherine 1st in 1650 'til her death in 1678 then Elizabeth in 1678 since her husband William Weeks had passed in 1677.
