Biography

Nell Mae 'Nellie' Maxey was born March 19, 1879 in Trenton, Missouri (Grundy County), daughter of Eugene Maxey (1852-1924) and Lydia Doty (1855-1921).

The Missouri Marriage Records, 1805-2002 shows that on August 23, 1899 in Liberty Township, Missouri (Grundy County), Nellie married Hampton W. 'Hamp' Elledge. Hampton was born March 19, 1869 in Trenton, Missouri (Grundy County), son of James Hampton Elledge (1823-1907) and Mary Simpson (1829-1894).

Nellie and Hampton would have two children: Dayton Hampton Elledge (1900-1965) and Lucille Maxine Elledge (1904-2003).

The 1910 Federal Census for Rock, Oklahoma (Ellis County) shows Nellie Elledge, age 31, born in Missouri; and her husband, Hampton W. Elledge, a farmer, age 41, born in Missouri. Living with them were two children: Dayton Elledge, age 10; and Lucille Elledge, age 6; both born in Oklahoma.

The 1920 Federal Census for Rock, Oklahoma (Ellis County) shows Nellie M. Elledge, age 40, born in Missouri; and her husband, Hampton W. Elledge, age 50, born in Missouri. Living with them were two children: Dayton H. Elledge, age 19; and Lucille Elledge, age 15; both born in Oklahoma. They were living next door to Nellie's father and mother, Eugene Maxey, age 68, born in Indiana; and Lydia M., age 64, born in Indiana.

The1940 Federal Census for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (Oklahoma County) shows Nell Elledge, age 61, born in Missouri. Living with her were her two children: Dayton Elledge, divorced, age 39, born in Oklahoma; and Lucille Elledge, divorced, age 36, born in Oklahoma.

Hampton died January 20, 1941 in Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, Missouri and was buried in Grundy County, Missouri in the Edinburg Cemetery.

Dayton died March 14, 1965 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (Oklahoma County) and was buried in Gage, Oklahoma (Ellis County) in the Gage Memorial Cemetery. Nellie died three weeks later on April 6, 1965 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (Oklahoma County) and was buried in Gage, Oklahoma (Ellis County) in the Gage Memorial Cemetery.

Lucille died April 30, 2003 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (Oklahoma County) and was buried in Gage, Oklahoma (Ellis County) in the Gage Memorial Cemetery.
