Biography

Elizabeth Betsy was born in 1781. Elizabeth passed away in 1838. a letter from Roy Sunderland to P.H.McCarty says that John McCarty was married to a Mayes Also Supreme CT of Tennessee records, September Term 1850 Satterfield, Ex'r and Adm'r vs mayes and others. Elizabeth McCarty inherits a 1/5 share of a family of slaves from her grandfather, Thomas Smith, after the death of her mother, Elizabeth Mayes, the wife of Sherrod Mayes. The court case becomes complicated because two of the daughters die before their mother, one of these being Elizabeth McCarty. While the court was deciding what to do, the slaves were held by Elizabeth's daughter, Martha and her husband Levi Satterfield.
