Biography

He is the son of Valentine Mayfield and Winnefred Unknown. Entered by Molly Boling, Apr 9, 2013 Philemon was born about 1763. He passed away before 1845. 1791: Philemon Mayfield is on a list of insolvents, Granvile County, North Carolina. He had one poll.

1832, 5 March: Philemon Mayfield, under the name of Philip Mayfield, purchased 100 & 1/4 acres of land in Coweta County, Georgia from William Ballard for the sum of $150. [Source: Coweta County, Georgia, Deeds & Mortgages, Book C, pages 146-147, FHL microfilm #473252].

It is believed that Philemon (Philip) Mayfield died sometime before 1845 because he was not listed on the 1845 or the 1846 Coweta County, Georgia tax lists although his son, Valentine Richard Smith Mayfield was listed on both of them. And, by 1847 there were no Mayfield names listed at all as paying taxes in Coweta County, Georgia.

Mayfield-1651 and Mayfield-431 appear to represent the same person because: The name, names of parents and spouse name seem consistent.
