m. Nancy Luster, 11 October 1824
During May 1779, while residing in Edgefield District, he enlisted under Capt. Richard Johnson and Col. Samuel Hammond and was in the storming of Grassas (?) Fort and Brown's Fort. In July 1781, he was under Capt. John Carter and Col. Saunders. In the fall of 1781, he joined Capt. Robert Day (of Ga. ) to guard wagons. Also during that year, he was under Capt. Ezekiel Abbot. In 1782, he was under Capt. Frederick Wommack and in the fall was in a Georgia unit. (Moved to N. C., Ark., Ala., and Tenn. )[2]
In 1806 John went to the French-Broad area of western North Carolina. It was in Buncome County. Part of Buncome County was included in Haywood County where we find John in the 1810 census with possibly some of the first family and the new wife. (2nd wife, name is not known) [3]

We do not know who all the little girls were in the above enumeration. They may have been a mixture of the two youngest ones being from the current marriage with the two older ones either from John's first marriage, or from hers.

John's mother's maiden name was obtained (speculation) from the McClung site on "Judith in the Ozarks" and updated by Judith A. McClung on RootsWeb. "Linn" possibly the family of the mother of John McClung, progenitor of the Georgia McClungs."

John was born about 1760. He passed away about 1844.
