Frank grew up on the McCorquodale farm on the townline between West Zorra and East Nissouri townships in Oxford County, Ontario. He attended S.S. 9 East Nissouri and Ingersoll Collegiate Institute. It was during his high school years that he lost the sight of one eye. Apparently a group of boys were playing with explosives used by the railroad (the railroad was near the collegiate) and one exploded and hit him in the eye. Probably this was one of the reasons that he left school in his fourth year. He certainly did not dwell on the fact that he only had one eye I never thought of him being handicapped.
He married Mary Ann, daughter of William Sutherland and Lexy MacKay, on Mar. 26, 1918.[1] They lived on the farm, lot 10, concession 14 in East Nissouri township until his death. He worked as a carpenter part time and died on his way home from work due to a heart attack.[2]
Tom Loghrin remembers tobogganing on the hill east of the barn. As the oldest of the grandkids, he often hauled the toboggan back up the hill. sometimes Uncle Don Hevenor helped out with that task. At least once after a great run down the hill, everyone ended up soaking wet in the slush on the creek! There was an old fence to be wary of too! There was a big cedar "hedge" along the west side of the driveway and Grandma always had tasty baking for us - whose Grandma doesn't?
