William McCoy was born in Appalachia, in Kentucky. See Appalachia Project.
William was born in 1811, the son of Samuel David McCoy (abt.1782-1855) and Elizabeth (Davis) McCoy (abt.1784-abt.1833). He married Mary (Burress) McCoy (abt.1821-abt.1913) in 1837.
