Biography

Mary Magdalene McCoy was born on 15 February 1851 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States to Asa Harmon McCoy (1828-1865]] and Martha Patsy Cline (c. 1830-1907).

She married William Daniels (1844-1899) on 22 November 1866 in Piketon, Pike County, Kentucky. He was the son of Richard Daniels and Margaret Charles. Mary was 15.

Children:

  1. America Daniels was born on 4 April 1868 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married John Chadwell Charles (1865-1944) on 14 March 1889 in Pike County, Kentucky. America. She appears on the 18 April 1930 US Federal Census with her husband in Pike County, Kentucky. Find A Grave gives her a death date of 1944 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. No source other than FAG for death yet.
  2. Victoria Daniels was born on 13 March 1870 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married 1) William Thompson Charles (1862-1914) in 1889 and 2) John Anderson Dotson (1876-1922) in 1907. Victoria died on 24 June 1945 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.
  3. Vicie Daniels was born on 7 March 1872 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The Daniels Bible records say that she was born on 4 March 1872. Her death certificate says 7 March 1871. She died on 18 August 1928 in Pulaski County, Kentucky, United States.
  4. Nancy Jane Daniels was born on 25 December 1873 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married John C. Charles (1862-1944) c. 1891. Nancy died in 1918 in Gravelbourg, Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, Canada.
  5. Perry Daniels was born on 8 October 1876 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. He married Vicy Ann McCoy (1876-1962) on 10 March 1904 in Pike County, Kentucky. Vicy was the daughter of Larken H. McCoy (1856-1938) and Mary Elizabeth Coleman (1856-1923). Perry died on 7 February 1919 in Welch, McDowell, West Virginia, United States.
  6. Nelson Daniels was born on 25 February 1879 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. He married Kansas Wolford (1897-1932) c. 1914. She was the daughter of Jonathan J. Wolford (1850-1915) and Mary Luansey Baker, known as Polly, (1852-1929). Nelson died on 12 October 1934 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.
  7. Martha Daniels was born on 5 November 1881 in Freeburn, Pike, Kentucky, United States. She married Joseph T. Bates in 1906 in Mingo County, West Virginia. Martha died on 12 September 1948 in Huntington, Cabell, West Virginia, United States.
  8. Mary Martha Daniels, called Maggie, was born on 24 October 1882 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. She married James Louis Keatley (1866- ) on 29 December 1900 in Mingo County, West Virginia. They seem to have been divorced by 1910 when she reported that status on the Federal Census. Maggie died on 28 December 1946 in Sprigg, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.
  9. William Walter Daniels, known as Bud, was born c. 1884 in Kentucky, United States. Bud died in 1955.
  10. Lydia Daniels was born on 23 September 1886 in Freeburn, Pike, Kentucky, United States. She died on 12 October 1961 in Painesville, Lake, Ohio, United States.
  11. Unknown Daniels was born on 23 September 1889 in Freeburn, Pike, Kentucky, United States. The infant died on 19 December 1889 in the same place.
  12. Dock Bell Daniels, was born on 27 January 1892 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. He died on 25 April 1938 in Williamson, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.
  13. Frank Daniels was born on 12 March 1894 in Freeburn, Pike, Kentucky, United States. He married Josie Marie Stevens (1903-1984). Frank died on 18 November 1959 in South Williamson, Pike, Kentucky, United States.
  14. Andrew Daniels was born on 26 August 1896 in Freeburn, Pike, Kentucky, United States. He married Cora Chafin (1901-1980) in 1916 in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States. Andy died on 6 September 1966 in Pike County, Kentucky, United States.

Mary died on 11 April 1939 in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States at the age of 88. She was buried in the Daniels Family Cemetery, Freeburn, Kentucky. There are photos of Mary and her husband on the Find A Grave page along with some great discussion about raising her 13 living children on the 800 acres of land left to her when her husband died and a description of the house.
