Biography

First born to the Dr. F.L. McDavid family -- Wendell L. lived to be only 15. Among the Doctors presiding over him was his own father. Tragically, all desperate efforts to save the the young school boy's life were unsuccessful. In the end, Wendell succumbed to exhaustion and dysentery not kidney failure as was previously thought. Dysentery: Inflamation of the intestine, especially of the colon, that may be caused by chemical irritants, bacteria, protozoa or parasites. As one might understand, for the young McDavids, this was an unexpected disaster of the highest order. Presently, it isn't clear if the causes for dysentery were well known or understood in the United States at that time. This disease was common in underdeveloped countries where sanitation, clean food and safe water were not present. Finally, Percy's son Wendell McDavid was named after his uncle, Wendell L. McDavid.
