Biography

  • Maud Lucinda McDonald was born in Ogden, Utah Territory on 6 July 1892, the daughter of William Wesley McDonald and Lucinda Mariah Emmerson.

In 1900, the McDonald family lived in Basalt, Blackfoot Precinct, Bingham, Idaho. The household included W. W. McDonald, 45, born Jan 1855 in Illinois (parents b. Ohio), a grocer who owned their home without a mortgage; his wife of 21 years, Lucinda, 41, b. Dec 1859 Minnesota (father b. Canada; mother b. Illinois), who had had ten children, eight of whom were living; their seven children, all born in Utah, except as noted, and all in school, except for the youngest one: Anna, 17, b. Minnesota in Nov 1883; W. H. (son), 14, b. March 1886; Joseph W., 13, b. Oct 1887; Maud, 9, b. June 1891; Clarence, 8, b. Oct 1892; Charles, 6, b. March 1894; and Leon, 3, b. Idaho in Aug 1897. The adults and the three oldest children could all read and write.[1]

In 1910, the McDonald family lived in Thatcher, Graham, Utah. The household included William W. McDonald, 55, born in Illinois, whose parents were b. Ohio. William was a real estate agent who owned their home without a mortgage; his wife of 30 years, Lucinda M., 50, b. Minnesota (father b. Canada; mother b. Ohio). Lucinfpda had had eleven children, nine of whom were living; their five children, all born in Utah, except as noted, and all in school: Maude L., 17; Clarence C., 16, laborer (odd jobs); Charles L., 15; Leon J., 12; and Daisy P., 7, born in Idaho.[2]

Maud married Alma Dayer LeBaron. They had at least thirteen children. According to "Maud's Story" she believed in plural marriage and offered to divorce Dayer so that Onie could marry him (legally in the US.) Dayer was sealed to Onie 7 Dec 1924 in Salt Lake City.

The LeBaron family left Utah due to conflicts with the new Mormon Church policy which banned polygamy. They ended up in rural Chihuahua, Mexico, with other ousted Mormon families. Several violent murders occurred between these clans. Many of their descendants still remain there today. In November, 2019, several of the colony’s residents, all women and children were ambushed and killed while traveling in a convoy to attend a wedding.

  • Maud married Alma Dayer LeBaron in 1910. Maud Lucinda (McDonald) LeBaron died, aged 86, on 23 February 1979 in Colonia Juarez, Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. She is buried there in Panteon Municipal #02 (cemetery)[3]
