James McDougall was born in 1805. He received an M. A. from Nassau Institute, later Princeton University. He also studied at Auburn Seminary. He kept a diary most of his life. I have a typed copy prepared by my late cousin Miriam Kortright. Early in his career he was a circuit riding preacher in the southern part of USA. After he became Pastor of the First Church Huntington, Long Island, New York, he became influential in the Presbyterian Church nationally. Outside his ministry he introduced many species and varieties of fruit trees to Long Island in his extensive orchard shown in his brother's painting. He passed away in 1888. I have a number of other records. Entered by Theodore Palmer, Mar 2, 2012
