Biography

The Walter McGee family lived in the SW Virginia area, mainly Carroll & Wythe Counties. After the civil war many of the McGee brothers along with their adult children moved to and settled in the Missouri Lead Belt area to work in the lead mines.

Walter and his wife, Meletha "Emma" S. Hylton, raised 6 children--5 sons and 1 daughter.

  • William Walter is a veteran of the Confederate States Military as: 2nd Lt. Company F, 29th VA Infantry. He fought along with 5 of his brothers.

Most of the McGee's were farmers, millers and miners.

William Walter died November 10, 1906 in St. Genevieve County, MO and is buried in Bonne Terre Cemetery, St. Francois County, MO. His tombstone inscription: "Gone But Not Forgotten".---Find A Grave website and family research.
