Biography

James McGrew was born on Aug. 8, 1800 to James McGrew and Jane Dick.

He married Elizabeth Cowan.[1]

James and his brother, John's, names appear on an 1835 list of society members of the first session held for the organization of the United Presbyterian Church, known as the Associate Reformed Church until 1858 in Prospect Borough, Butler County, Pennsylvania.[2]

James died on Apr. 8, 1869. He is buried at the Prospect Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Prospect, Pennsylvania.[3]

I edited his bio to reflect the correct burial place in Prospect, not Portersville. Also uploaded the image from Find-a-Grave. The name is written with an apostrophe, not a small "c." This is apparently a common stone-carvers' abbreviation.

James and his wife Eliza are actually buried in the Prospect Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Prospect. Their names on their stones are spelled with an apostrophe in place of the small "c": M'Grew.
