My Dad lived a very structured life, almost military in style - necessary in a small home with only two bedrooms yet a population of NINE! (two parents, five boys and two girls.) Dad used every bit of space the home had to offer. Sit down meals were served in the basement and the boys slept in the attic. The one meager bathroom was like Grand Central Station.
All our activities were, well, ORDERED. For example, we could not drink our milk until our plates had been cleaned. Not to say we had no fun. Dad would put together summer weekend camp outs in northern Michigan -imagine our fully loaded auto as it pulled away from 6431 Mead Street! At other times when Irish tempers would flare between two brothers my Dad would send them to the basement and set them to bare fist boxing where the rounds ended only when the loser gave up or ones eyes glazed over. No one ever threw in the towel.
