Biography

Benjamin McIntire, Jr was born in 1829 in New Gloucester, Maine, the son of Benjamin McIntire, Sr and Maria (Moriah) Prince.

He married Nancy Helen Small 25 May 1859 New Gloucester, Maine. They were the parents of six known children:

• Henry Beecher McIntire b. 23 Jun 1861 at New Gloucester, Maine, d. 2 Jul 1921 at Mattapan, Massachusetts;
• Edwin M McIntire b. 5 Sep 1864 at North Yarmouth, Maine, d. 1940;
• Helen Maria McIntire b. 22 Jun 1866 at New Gloucester, Maine, d. 12 Nov 1943 also at New Gloucester;
• Mabel Morse McIntire b. 6 Dec 1867 at New Gloucester, Maine, d. 29 Sep 1904 at Portland, Maine;
• Rolvin Wellington McIntire b. 1 Sep 1869 at New Gloucester, Maine, d. 19 Nov 1940 also at New Gloucester;
• Herman Melbourne McIntire b. 30 Jul 1873 at New Gloucester, Maine; d. 15 Sep 1911 also at New Gloucester.

Benjamin served in the Union Army as a Private in Co I, 25th REGT. and in Co E 30th Maine Volunteers, enlisting on 29 Sep 1862. He served with his brother Levi McIntire while in Co I, 25th REGT.

He was buried on 16 July 1897 in the Lower Cemetery, New Gloucester in Lot # 141, grave 3, along with many other McIntire family members.

For the purpose of New Gloucester town records, he is referred to as Benjamin, Jr.
