According to the 1901 Census as well as his death record, Robert was born Decmber 12, 1826 in McNab Township, Renfrew county, Ontario. He is the son of James McLaren and Catherine McLaren, both emigrants from Perthshire, Scotland.
On February 12, 1862 in Horton Township, Renfrew, Ontariom he married Mary Airth, the youngest daughter of Sgt. Henry Airth.[1]
At the time of Robert's death on October 6, 1909 he lived on Stewart Street in Renfrew Township. Cause of death was "old age and general failure for a few months and heart failure a few hours." He is described as a Presbyterian and a retired farmer whose age was 82 years, 9 months and 24 days. His parents' names were given as James McLaren and Catherine McLaren.[2]
