Biography
FIRST WIFE: Stephen William McLeod was born 6 January 1836 in the Powellton area of Richmond County, NC. Stephen was married three time. His first marriage was to Martha Elizabeth (Mattie) Dickerson (b.1843) in about 1863 in Powellton, Richmond County, NC. Their son, Stephen Dickerson McLeod, was born in November 1863. Some time before the end of 1863...a few weeks after her baby was born, Mattie caught on fire and died while singeing a chicken in a large pot over a fire/ She was 22 years old. He was married two more times after Mattie died. He moved to Ashley County Arkansas and when he died was buried in 1916 at Hamburg, Ashley County, Arkansas in Mt Zion Cemetary

Stephen William McLeod's first wife, Martha Elizabeth (Mattie) Dickerson was 22 years old (1843-1865) when she caught fire and died while cooking over an outside open fire. He remarried and his second wife was Dora A. M. Norell.
