Note NI36890This was a double marriage with his sister Mary, the witnesses to both were James Martin and Robert Simpson. At this time their father was a Fireman about pit. Thomas was residing at Union Street, Agnes at Rawyards New Monkland. The 1871 census has them at 23 Muir Street. Robert aged 25 a coalminer, Agnes 23 born at Monkland, Thomas 3, and Agnes 1 both born at Dalserf. They arrived in New Zealand on the "Christian McCausland" 1875. Thomas 29, from Linlithgow, a Miner, Agnes 27, Thomas 6, Agnes 5, Maria 3, and Duncan 1. Thomas and his children departed from Bluff on the ship «i»Tarawera «i»and arrived in Melbourne on 8 November 1888. Index of Inward Passenger Lists for British, Foreign and New Zealand Ports 1852-1923, Public Record Office, Victoria. Death cert says he was 62 years 2 weeks and 6 days old, that he had been in New Zealand 14 years and Victoria. McNair.-On the 10th January, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. R. Genin, 38 Courtney- street, North Melbourne, Thomas McNair (late president Outtrim branch V.C.M.A.), the beloved father of Thomas and Duncan McNair, Mrs. F. S. Sutton, Mrs. R. Simple, Mrs. J. Coxhell, Mrs. R. Genin, Esther, and Nellie McNair, aged 62 years. At rest. The Argus, Melbourne, Victoria, Monday 13 January 1908. 1
