DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

I have a newspaper article dated 11-2-1984 from the News Herald, Morganton, NC about the murder of John McTaggert and the trial and hanging of the slaves that killed him. It is titled "The state vs Negro Betsy, the first woman hanged in Burke" It is scanned into a PDF file and if any family is interested I would like for them to have it. It free, of course. It is very interesting. Please contact me for information.
