George worked as a porter in Chatham, Ontario as a young man.[1] By the turn of the century, he had moved to Michigan and was tending bar in Grand Rapids.[2] His brother Eyre lived with him for a while in Grand Rapids before moving on to Minnesota. George eventually married May Mahar and settled in the town of Vermontville in central Michigan where he ran a pool hall for many years.[3][4][5] George and May had no children and May died in June 1930.[6] George died two years later in 1932.[7]
