Daniel McKain, a soldier, was the father of John MacKaine and Daniel Mackaine Mesquene-Mckain-2. He died before 15 October 1766, on Guernsey.

It is thought that john did not go to Quebec.
The variants of his surname include McKain, MacKain, MacKaine, MacIain The Guernsey Island descendants are usually McKane. Most of the New Zealand descendants use the spelling McKain.
Mesquene and others similar are phonetic spelling in the French language as used in Guernsey for legal purposes.

A Daniel McKay was imprisoned in 1745 [4] for taking part in a Jacobite rebellion. If he is the same Daniel McKay as above, he would have been only 14 years old, and could not be Daniel McKane [Mckain-374] who was a soldier.
