Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Richard Meador was a Virginia colonist.

Richard Meador was born about 1678 in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia (in the part now known as Essex County).[1]

On 16 Dec 1683 Richard was named in a Deed of Gift by Abraham Coombe.[2]
On 10 Dec 1694 Richard received a gift of land from his father, prior to his father's remarriage.[3]

Richard married Ann Moss sometime before July 1698, at which time she, as the wife of Richard, co-signed with him a bond for the faithful administration of her father's estate.[4]

Richard wrote and signed his will 12 Dec 1715, in Essex County, Virginia. The will was entered into probate on 15 May 1716.[5]

Children

Three of Richard's children are named in his will: his oldest son William, his younger son (as of 1715) Richard, and his youngest daughter Addra. The reference to Addra as the youngest daughter indicates that there was at least one older daughter. In other words, not all of Richard's children are named in his will.

In addition to one documented but unknown daughter, there is at least some indication that the Francis Meadows born about 1717, was also Richard's son, perhaps born posthumously. There is also a possibility that Joel Meador is another son, also not named in Richard's will, although this remains speculative..
