William was born 1769 in Mecklenburg, North Carolina to John Means and Rachael Harris. He married Sarah (Ormond) Means in North Carolina. He passed away on December 23, 1811 in Blount, Tennessee.
In 1790 William was living in Mecklenburg, North Carolina.[1] In 1810 he was listed on the census as living in Capt McKees, Mecklenburg, North Carolina.[2]
William was one of the commissioners for the Jail Building in Raleigh Minerva on June 14, 1810.[3]
