Biography

There are a few slightly conflicting dates for Horace's birth, but the WWII draft registration card and the U.S., Social Security Death Index, show the date as 21 Oct 1884, and place of birth as Mahaffey, Clearfield, Pennsylvania USA [1] and [2]

The 1900 census showed Horace living with his parents and siblings in Bell Township, Clearfield, Pennsylvania, United States. Samuel Meckley was 64 years old, his wife Amanda was 53, and they had children Henderson age22, Ellis age 18 and Horace age 15. Also in the house was their married daughter Agness Bouch and her daughter Henrietta age 4. [3]

Horace married Nora Gearhart on 27 June 1908, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. Their parents initials were shown as S and A Meckley and W and E Gearhart. [4].

In the 1910 census, the family were living in Chest, Clearfield, Pennsylvania, United States. Head of the household Horace L Meckley was age 24, and a farmer, his wife Nora A Meckley was 22 and baby Blair was just one year old. [5]

In 1920, the family were living in Bell, Clearfield, Pennsylvania. Horace, age 36 was now a coal miner, Nora was age 32, and they had children Blair age 11, Theadore T age 9 and Mable F age 6. [6]


Horace died in Jan 1974, and his date of birth was shown as 21 Oct 1884 [7]

Horace died on 14 Jan 1974, in Burnside, Clearfield, Pennsylvania, USA. and was buried in the Mount Zion Cemetery. His date of birth here was shown as 21 Nov 1884 [8]
