Biography

Johannes Meffert was born on Jan. 24th, 1732 in what is now Hessen, Germany.[citation needed] He immigrated with his father, Andreas Conrad Meffert, arriving in Philadelphia on 26 Sep 1749 aboard the Ranier which originated in Rotterdam and stopped in England.[1] He was naturalized on 19 Sept 1762 in Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.[citation needed]

John may have married Susanna Kuntz about 1755 in Pennsylvania.[2] He married Catherine Lutz, probably in 1781 or 1782 in Frederick County.[3][4]

John and his family moved to Fredericks County, Maryland in 1762.[5]. He served in the Revolutionary War from 12 Sept 1775 to 25 Oct 1776 in Captain John Carmacks Company as a 1st Lieutenant.[citation needed]

There are seven deeds in total recorded for John Meffert in Fredericks County, Maryland. The last deed recorded on 8 Apr 1793 (WR-11) shows that John sold all his land as well as the land that his wife, Catherine, inherited from her first husband, Michael Trout. It's assumed that the family headed for Kentucky and settled in Scott County around that date[6]

John Meffert died in Scott County, Kentucky, USA in February of 1795.[7] He may have been buried in the Eastern Cemetery in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.[8]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Meffert-48 and Meffert-31 appear to represent the same person because: clearly same person. LNAB needs determined. Spouse and child need mered. Ancestor of Tom Hanks and Mr. Rogers according to report by Ancestry.com

Mefford-52 and Meffert-31 appear to represent the same person because: According to the birthdates provided in Medford-52, Magdalena Haas was 24 years older than her husband, John Medford. I propose that John Medford is actually Magdalena's son (see Johannes Meffert, Meffert-31)
