Note NI374Not wanting to raise a family in the midst of slavery, Elijah moved to Ohio from Wilkes County, Georgia around 1806. He first settled in Butler County, Ohio then, in 1812 he bought land in Gratis Township, Preble County, Ohio where he lived until his death in 1814. He died of the "cold plague" (probably influenza) and was buried in an orchard he had planted on his farm.
