Biography

John was born circa 1675-87, based on his marriage date of 1708, and his father's second marriage in 1684. His mother could have been either of his father's wives. But his birthplace is still a mystery and no baptisms have been found for him and his siblings. The family doesn't appear to have been non-conformist.

He was bequeathed one shilling in his father's will dated 4 Jul 1695 - "my second son John".[1]

He married Avery Hale at Potton, Bedfordshire, on 28 Apr 1708 - John Merrill of this parish and Avery Hale of Gamlingay.[2]

The family baptised their first five children in Little Gransden, Cambridgeshire, but they appear to moved to Potton, Bedfordshire between 1717 and 1721, as their remaining children were all baptised in Potton.

He was bequeathed £20 in the will of his brother William dated 17 Jan 1740/41[3]

He was buried at Potton, Bedfordshire on 24 Sep 1750. [4]
