Biography

Dale E. Merryman, 82, of Kearney, NE., died Monday, June 25, 2012, at his home. Dale He was born Aug. 17, 1929, in Kearney to Asa and Anna (Notz) Merryman.

On Feb. 22, 1952, he married Marlene Anderson. She preceded him in death.

Survivors are: daughter, LeeAnn Smith and her husband, Troy, of Sargent, NE.; son-in-law, Bruce Petersen of North Carolina; brother, Nelson "Buzz" Merryman of Kearney, NE.; sisters-in-law, Gwen McCune of Hastings, NE. and Jan Anderson of Lincoln, NE.; and special friend, Marge Hitt of Kearney, NE.

dale was a lifelong resident of the Kearney area, graduated from Kearney High School and served 10 years in the Army National Guard.

Dale and Marlene lived and raised their family on the Merryman family farm where Dale was engaged in agriculture for 50 years. He loved working the land, the challenges associated with growing crops and livestock.

After moving to town, Dale was employed by Ace Irrigation for eight years. In retirement he enjoyed time spent at Bob's Superstore, visiting with friends and acquaintances over a cup of coffee.

Dale was a member of New Life Assembly. His hobbies were waterfowl hunting and, more recently, talking politics to anyone who enjoyed a lively debate. A good father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons on the farm.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Merryman; daughter, Connie Petersen; sister-in-law, Sue Merryman; grandsons, Christopher Petersen and Jeff Merryman; and great-granddaughter, Lillian Merryman.

Interment was in the Kearney Cemetery, Kearney, NE.
