DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Susannah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Added Charity, a daughter of Susannah Messenger, who was baptized a few years before Susannah's marriage to Ebenezer Hopkins: Barbour, Lucius Barnes. Families Of Early Hartford, Conn. (Genealogical Pub. Co., 1977) Page 401.
Charity, wife of Aaron Cook, is my maternal line and my only mitochondrial dna match (FTDNA) is to a descendant of Susannah Messenger's parents, Daniel and Lydia.
Queries for Charity in the Boston Transcript and Hartford Times in 1935 and 1910 shows that this is at least a 100 year old mystery solved.
Find a Grave is not a reliable source. The records for the births of Tabitha and Hulda are probably misinterpreted. The American colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1752, shifting the start of the year from March 1st to January 1st.
Please note that the mother has no location on her find a grave notation. The burial would then be where the daughter was born as she died giving birth to Tabitha. There is a debate on how Hulda and Tabitha were eight months apart and this software won't allow Hulda to be entered. However I do thing one of them was not delivered to term. See history.
