Biography

Meyrinck, aka Margrietje (English: Margaret) is the daughter of Jan Meyers and his wife Teuntje Straitsman. She and her half-brother, Laurens Haff, were born in the Dutch Colony of Fort Margaret on the Cabedelo peninsula in Pemambuco, Brazil.

Margrietje was baptized on April 20, 1639, in the Dutch Reformed Church in Recife, Brazil. [1]

Margaret married Herman Jansen Van Lenneps and lived in Esopus, (*Kingston) in Ulster County, New York. The village lies about 90 miles up the Hudson River from New York City. It was here that Hendrich/Hendrick Martensen met her, as a widow, after her first husband's death.

It was in Esopus, on December 11, 1660, that Meyrinck and Henrdrich would become the parents of Fytje (English: Sophia) This daughter, "Sophia" would marry Theunis Herckz Cranckheit, son of Herbts Sibouts Cranckheit and Wyntje Theunis Quick.

Also born in Ulster County were Jannatje, Barber, Marten, and Hendrick. By the time her son, Myndert was born in 1672, the family had moved to Newtown, Long Island. Younger brothers Theunis and Jacob were also born on Long Island.

In 1686, Margaret was listed as a member of the Dutch Reformed Church ["Margreit Meyrinck, the wife of Hendrick Martensen", living at Arme Bouwerye ("Poor Bowery" in Newtown)].

Meyer-2811 and Meyerinck-1 appear to represent the same person because: Meyer-2811 had been attached to the wrong parents, and I have removed her from that family. On the basis of information included when the profile was created (untouched in the Notes section), she is evidently the same person as Meyerinck-1. I've identified one source and have included some information, but I defer to the Meyerinck-1 profile managers on all details.

Thank you to Steve Mix for reviewing this profile and conducting the merge. I apologize for use the "normal merge" utility to suggest it in the first place, as at the time I did not realize that there were other methods in place. I have performed "clean-up" of the details of the profile on the page without deleting any of the particulars. Steve can let me know if he wants all of the acknowledgements to be preserved (they will always be available under the changes page.)

Kanistanaux-4 and Kanistanaux-1 appear to represent the same person because: These two profiles cite the same sources. Location of birth is a discrepancy, but the reports of the place of birth vary across records. Please consider opening up Kanistanaux to facilitate completion of merge if appropriate. Thanks!

Meyers-792 and Meyers-185 appear to represent the same person because: The following message from Michael Foos was posted on the WikiTree profile of Margaret Meyers.

The profile Meyers-792 represents the same individual as Meyers-185 and should be merged after the appropriate comparisons. The dates and parents are the same for both.
