Margaret Ellen Mickle was born on March 2, 1844 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of George Mickle & Mary Jane Hannah. [1] Margaret was baptised on June 2, 1844 at Mt Pleasant-Presbyterian Chuch in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.[2]

In the 1861 census Margaret (age 17) was the unmarried stepdaughter of John Gellatly in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England. She was a Milliner.[3]
