Michael's parents, Christopher Christian Christley Miller and Sarah Jane Short were Kentucky pioneers who sold their properties in Virginia and made their way to Kentucky, with Michael and his older siblings. Michael's father doesn't appear on the Breckinridge, Kentucky tax lists until 1801, the year that the town of Hardinsburg, Kentucky, was incorporated. [1]
Michael was born in the year 1799, in Virginia.[2][3][4]
Michael first married Nancy Clark, a daughter of Thomas Martin Clark (1761-1811) and Mildred ‘Millie’ Moorman (1765-1827). She was born in Campbell County, Virginia, in 1804. Her parents moved the family to Breckinridge County in the summer of 1809.
Michael and Nancy had two children during their short marriage, as Nancy passed away soon after giving birth to her second child:
Calvin Miller (1824-1880) He married America Hendrick.
Ann Elizabeth Miller (1826-1912). She married Andrew Roland De Jarnette.
Two years later, Michael married Matilda Ellen Ball. [5] They married on April 30, 1828, in Perry County, Indiana, while still living in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Matilda was a daughter of John Ball Jr. and Alice "Alcy" Withers.
During the time of the 1950 Census, Michael (age 51) and Matilda (age 39) had the following children living with them:
Mary Ellen Miller Hendrick, b. (1829-1867) She married Luther Calvin Hendrick. [6](Not living with her parents as she is already married to Luther).
Luther Miller (1830-1854)
Jane America (age 17) b. 1833, Kentucky, married a Lyons.
Michael Miller died on October 20, 1880, having lived a long life of 81 years, living in Breckinridge County. He was buried in the Bethel Cemetery in Bewleyville, Kentucky.[7]
