Biography

Samuel Miller, son of William Miller and Hannah (…), was born about 1674, being age 85 when he died in March 1759. He was buried at the First Presbyterian Churchyard, Elizabeth, Essex County, New Jersey where the inscription reads: "Here lies the body of Samuel Miller who deceased March the 14th A.D. 1759 in the 85th year of his age" [1]

Samuel married Elizabeth Thompson, daughter of Thomas Tomson.[2]

Of Elizabeth Town, on 6 April 1697, he was named guardian to Thomas and Aaron Thomson, minor sons of Aaron Thomson, of the same place, deceased.[3]

Samuel Miller left a will dated 9 April 1735, and proved 6 October 1760 identifying himself as a carpenter, of Elizabeth Town, and naming or mentioning:[4]

  • wife Elizabeth
  • children William, John, Enoch, Aaron, Andrew, Moses, Hannah (wife of Mathias Hetfield), Elizabeth (wife of Joseph Price), Joanna (wife of Nathanael Bonnel, Jr., and Susanna;
  • his homestead 12 aces in Elizabeth Town Great Meadows, bought of Daniiel Sayre;
  • 100 acres in Southold, Suffolk Co., Long Island, bought of Benjamin Luce;
  • 20 acres adjoining brother, Richard Miller;
  • other real and personal property.
  • Executors wife with sons William, Enoch, and Aaron
  • wit: Thomas Chapman, Nathaniel Mitchell, Elijah Davis
