Liilian was born in Highlands, Macon County, North Carolina around 26 January 1883.[1] Her parents moved the family to Sherman, Texas between 1893 and 1900.[2] Around 7 October 1905 she married William Casteel; they were still living in Sherman in 1910[3] and had moved to Waco, Texas before 1920.[4]
Lillie and William appear to have divorced between 1920 and 1923, as William remarried around 1923; Lille doesn't appear to have ever remarried. Lillie may have been living in St. Louis, Missouri in 1930, working as a seamstress.[5] By 1940, Lillie was back in Texas, living with her daughter and granddaughter.[6] In 1942, Lillie signed a delayed birth certificate for her daughter Willie Mary.[7]
Lillie was in the Texas State Hospital in Kerrville towards the end of her life, and she died there on 21 February 1961[8] She's buried in their cemetery.[9]
