Morris Mitchell was born on July 7, 1803 in Hawkins, Tennessee, USA. He was son of Solomon Mitchell (1759–1839) and Nancy Broughton (1762–1849).

He was married to Sarah "Sally" Mills about 1821 in Hawkins, Tennessee. He and Sarah, along with a daughter and granddaughter died with typhoid fever in the year 1860, in Richwoods, McDonald, Missouri, after the U.S. Census was taken in June. Following their deaths, most of their sons enlisted in the Civil War, CSA, 16th Missouri Infantry, Co. E. They were said to be parents of about 20 children. In the 1850 census M (age 48), Farmer, was in Cass, Taney, Missouri, United States.[1]
