Biography


Sicily Mize was born on 16 June 1841 in Franklin County, Georgia. She was the fifth child of seven of parents Thomas Mize and Martha (Cape) Mize. The 1850 census[1] shows eleven year old Sicily living with her family in Franklin County.

On 18 Sep 1856 Sisley married[2] William Walker there in Franklin County. Sisley gave birt to their daughter Mary in 1857 and their son James in 1860. William enlisted[3] in the Confederate 34th Georgia Infantry Regiment on 12 May 1862 and died[4] on 08 July 1862.

Sisley married Calib Cobb Chitwood on 03 Sep 1870 still in Franklin County, Georgia. Between 1871 and 1885 Sisley gave birth to their seven children. The 1880 census shows Sisley raising her family now in Banks County, Georgia.

Caleb died in 1893. Sisley Chitwood passed away on 27 March 1897 in Banks County, Georgia. She is buried[5] at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Baldwin, Banks County, Georgia next to Caleb.
