Eliza remarried on March 10, 1892 to Elder Humphrey Mohler of Hartville, Stark County, Ohio, of the Nimishillen District. Eliza and her two youngest sons, John and Christie, moved to Hartville.
Humphrey Mohler was born September 7, 1841, sons of Isaac and Christena (Garman) Mohler. His first wife was Elizabeth Humbert (1842-1890). They had no children.
Humphrey was elected a deacon in 1871 and a minister in 1881. He spoke German as flurently as English, and often times preached and read in German.
After Jacob and Mary Cover decided to move to California, they stayed with Humphrey and Eliza for two weeks before their departure. They left from the little train depot at Hartville for this big adventure, not realizing what the change had in store for generations to come.
Humphrey, Eliza and Christie visisted Jacob and Mary in Los Angeles County in 1902-03. While there, they purchased farmland in Stanislaus County on the southwest corner of what became North and Dakota Avenues. They returned to Ohio with intentions to move to California. Humphrey became ill and soon died on December 7, 1904, age 63 years. His funeral was held in the new Nimishillen meetinghouse.
In October 1907, Eliza and her son Christie and his wife Hattie and their daughter Dorothy moved from Hartville to California. They built a new house upon the property that she and Humphrey had bought, and this is where she lived until she died on April 9, 1931, age 92 years. She died at her home, and her great-great grandson Matthew Cover new lives in the same house.
To clear the land deed from the late Humphrey Mohler to his wife Eliza, his nieces and nephews had to sign off. They were the children of his brother John G. Mohler (father of Sallie Cover), and his sisters, Savilla Hildenbrand, Sophia Bollinger, and Sarah Hossler. This included Phoebe Balbaugh (1875-1945), daughter of Sophia Bollinger. Many of her family later lived at Modesto.
