Biography

When Theodore Wall Montgomery was born on September 5, 1825, in Mississippi, his father, Joseph, was 42 and his mother, Lavinia, was 28. He had six brothers and five sisters. He died on June 17, 1862, at the age of 36. Theodore Montgomery belonged to the Sabine Rifles-Sixth Louisiana Infantry-being Co. A of that regiment. He enlisted in the Sabine Rifles, Co. A. 6th Regiment La Inf., in June 1861. He died of infection from a slight bullet wound in June 1862 in the Charlottesville, Virginia General Hospital Theodores first battle was Bull Run July 21, 1861. He was in several battles and wounded at North River at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and died June 17, 1862 from wounds According to the notes from Lona Mae Gordon, Theodore died at General Hospital Charlottesville VA after the Battle of Three Forks. War records state the Theodore was brought from University and died 15 minutes after arrival to the hospital.

According to United Daughters of the Confederacy Application submitted by Elizabeth Montgomery Addison Carroll Summers, "Theodore Wall Montgomery enterd the service with me in April 1861 the name of the Co was Sabine Rifles we were first the 6 Regt the first Co., A, we were sent to Virginia the first Battle we was in was Bull Run the 21 day of July 1861from then on we were in several engagements and in September we were in the Battle of North River at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains where we lost several of our Co. Mr. Montgomery was wounded their and died of his wound. Mr. Montgomery was a good soldier and a Brave man. Signed John J. Curtis and L. J. Nash"
